Description
This is an original United States Army Indian Wars Campaign Service Medal, awarded to recognise service during the Indian Wars period between 1865 and 1891. The medal features the iconic obverse design depicting a mounted Native American warrior, with the inscription INDIAN WARS around the edge. It is suspended from the correct red ribbon with black stripes, consistent with period issue.
Instituted in 1907, this medal was issued retrospectively to U.S. Army personnel who served in various campaigns across the American frontier. Examples like this are increasingly sought after by militaria collectors for their historical significance and connection to late 19th century U.S. military history.
