Description

On 29 November 1948, Prime Minister Ben Chifley unveiled Australia’s first mass-produced car, the Holden 48-215. With a 10-piece orchestra and thunderous applause, the ivory-coloured sedan was officially launched. The 48-215, affectionately known as the FX, was a six-cylinder, four-door sedan that immediately captured Australians’ hearts. Its popularity led to long waiting lists, even prompting black-market trading. General Motors-Holden’s Automotive Ltd used wartime expertise to create the 48-215, initially referred to as the ‘320’. The name Holden was chosen over quirky alternatives like Canbra and Emu, in honour of the company’s first chairman, Sir Edward Holden. The name soon became synonymous with Australian motoring. This limited-edition prestige cover, featuring a gold-plated medallion and 48-215 grille badge reproduction, pays tribute to this iconic car.
