Description

A netsuke is a miniature sculpture, originating in 17th century Japan. Initially a simply-carved button fastener on the cords of an inro box, netsuke later developed into ornately sculpted objects of craftsmanship.

Noh is a major form of classical Japanese dance-drama that has been performed since the 14th century. Noh is often based on tales from traditional literature with a supernatural being transformed into human form as a hero narrating a story. Noh integrates masks, costumes and various props in a dance-based performance, requiring highly trained actors and musicians.

This netsuke is in lovely condition and features 7 Noh masks and human faces. 4 on one side and 3 on the other. It bears a makers signature.

Size: 5CM X 4CM X 2.5CM (approximately)
