Assadour spent his early years in Beirut. Time spent working with Jean Khalife at the Italian Cultural Institute led to the artist being granted a scholarship to study in Italy in 1961. Assadour went on to settle in Paris in 1964, attending the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts where he studied engraving under Lucien Coutaud, it was here that he developed his distinctive, detailed style of etching. The early 1970s saw the artist participating in several international exhibitions and biennials as well as exhibiting at the prestigious Galerie du Dragon in Paris. Uniquely, Galerie du Dragon focused on giving artists who had recently emigrated to France the opportunity to exhibit their work, leading many to go onto achieve international recognition.
Mainly producing etchings with the aquatint technique in his earlier works, Assadour started to experiment with watercolour and oil paints, finding greater artistic freedom working on larger scale canvases. A 2016 retrospective exhibition titled Assadour: Landscape in Motion was held at The Sursock Museum in Beirut. Recent shows include another career-spanning retrospective at the esteemed Osthaus Museum Hagen in Germany. Assadour’s work is held in several distinguished institutions and collections, including The British Museum, London; The Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris; Fonds National D’Art Contemporain, Paris; the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon; the Barjeel Art Foundation, Sharjah; Mathaf: Arab Museum of Art, Doha; Dalloul Art Foundation, Beirut and the Sursock Museum, Beirut.
