Shigeki Kuroda was born in 1953 in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. Pursuing his passion for art, he commenced his painting studies at Tama University of Art in Tokyo in 1977, culminating in a master’s degree in 1979.
In 1984, Shigeki Kuroda journeyed to the United States, delving into diverse printmaking techniques such as etching, drypoint, mezzotint, and aquatint.
Raised during a period of conflict between Japan’s traditional values and Western modernization and industrialization, Kuroda’s art profoundly reflects the evolving Japanese cultural identity, capturing the essence of this societal transformation within his works.
